Emily's Gift Fundraising Cake & Coffee Morning: A Sweet Success

Go Gold - Fundraising for Emily’s Gift with Julie Kent MBE at the Holiday Inn Express

On Wednesday, September 20th, we hosted a wonderful Cake & Coffee morning in aid of Emily's Gift, with Julie Kent MBE and Holiday Inn Express Cheltenham. The event was an amazing success, with over 80 people turning up to support this worthy cause and fill up on delicious Vanilla Pod Bakery cakes and coffee.

We created a tempting array of cakes, from Carrot, Walnut & Orange (which was a firm favourite), to Belgian Chocolate Truffle cake to dainty cupcakes and mouth-watering Coffee & Walnut slices. There was something for everyone to enjoy. The event only lasted for an hour and a half, and we were thrilled to have raised over £600 for Emily's Gift 💜🌸

The money raised will help the appeal get that little bit closer to employing a much-needed psychologist at Gloucester Hospital, who will provide professional emotional support for the children going through their cancer treatment and their families. This support is desperately needed, as cancer treatment can be a very traumatic experience for both the child and their loved ones.

The psychologist will be able to help the children and their families cope with the emotional impact of the diagnosis, treatment, and recovery process. They will also be able to provide support for the children's siblings and other family members.

We are so grateful to everyone who came to support our Cake & Coffee morning during Julie Kent MBE’s GoGold fundraising month. Thank you so much to Holiday Inn Express Cheltenham for their support and to those who donated the amazing raffle prizes.

If you would like to donate to Emily's Gift, please visit the Emily's Gift Just Giving Page. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference.

The importance of professional emotional support for children with cancer and their families

A diagnosis of cancer is a life-changing event for both the child and their family. It can be a very difficult and stressful time, and it is important that children and their families have access to professional emotional support.

A psychologist can help the child and their family cope with the emotional impact of the diagnosis, treatment, and recovery process. They can also provide support for the child's siblings and other family members.

Professional emotional support can help children and their families to:

  • Cope with the stress and anxiety of the diagnosis and treatment
  • Understand the diagnosis and treatment process
  • Make informed decisions about the child's care
  • Adjust to the changes in their lives
  • Cope with the emotional impact of the cancer
  • Build resilience and coping skills
  • Improve their quality of life

If you or someone you know is supporting a child with cancer, please encourage them to seek professional emotional support. It is essential that children and their families have the support they need to get through this difficult time.

Why is Emily's Gift so important?

Emily's Gift is an appeal to raise £500,000 to fund the employment of a psychologist for 10 years on the Emily Kent Unit at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. The Emily Kent Unit is a specialist children's cancer ward, and the psychologist will provide emotional support for the children and their families during their cancer journey.

The emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis can be devastating, and children and their families need all the support they can get. A psychologist can help them to cope with the stress, anxiety, and depression that can often accompany a cancer diagnosis. They can also help them to deal with the practical challenges of cancer treatment, such as financial hardship and disruption to their education and work.
