When it comes to celebrating life's special moments, commissioning a bespoke occasion cake to mark the celebration is a must in our minds. The perfect cake crafted with love and creativity, as well as tantalising your taste buds. In the midst of planning the flavours and cake decorations, it easy to overlook the finer details that will ensure your cake is presented and enjoyed in style. So we have put together a handy Bespoke Celebration Cake Checklist to ensure you have everything to your delicious centre piece.
- Cake Stand or Stands - How will you display your cake? Often cake creators hire cake stands for an additional fee - at the Vanilla Pod Bakery we happily hire our cake stands and collect them too.
- Cake Table - What type of table will you display your cake on? Will it be covered by a table cloth?
- Cake Knife - How are you going to cut your cake? Often cake creators or caterer have knives that they will lend you or hire for a fee
- Birthday Cake Candles - Do you need to purchase candles for your cake? At the Vanilla Pod Bakery we include a pack of birthday cake candles with all our celebration cakes.
- Cake Topper - Often this is part of the design brief but I mention it here, in case it is an after thought. A lot of cake makers will ask if you would like this, they can either create toppers in sugar or source non edible toppers.
- Napkins / Plates - How will you serve your cake? Beautiful linen napkins? Pretty paper napkins? Elegant small cake plates?
- Cake Forks - Dainty cake forks are a lovely addition to a little cake plate, making for a very civilised cake occasion.
- Individual Cake Boxes or Bags - Will your guests want to take slices of cake home? If so how will they cake them home? Wrapped in napkin, in specialist individual cake boxes or paper bags? Your cake maker may be able to advise on the correct sizes, and where to get items such as these, or they maybe able to source them for you.
- Storage Box - If you have left over cake how will you store it? Will you cake maker leave a storage box for your cake, or will need to purchase a large airtight Tupperware container?
- Overall Display - Cakes aren’t hidden in a corner anymore! Often celebrations have whole display set ups for their cakes. From Balloon arches, bespoke printed backdrops, fairy light walls, flower walls and more. Check out some cake display ideas on Pinterest.
